This study introduces the fabrication of site-selectively hybridized amphiphilic Janus microparticles. For this, we first synthesize amphiphilic Janus microparticles, in which seeded monomer swelling and consecutive photo-polymerization is utilized. The seed compartment is decorated with hydroxyl groups which act as precipitation sites during reduction of Pd precursors. Both particle size and Janusity of microparticles are precisely controlled by simply regulating the degree of monomer swelling. To give catalytic site-selectivity to the Janus microparticles, we patch Pd nanoparticles on one of their compartment surfaces. Finally, we show that our site-selectively Pd-catalyzed Janus microparticles play an essential role in development of novel emulsion drops-based microreactor system in which Pd-mediated catalytic activity occurs via immiscible liquid-liquid interfaces. |
