제목 Effect of antigenic reaction on orientational variation of liquid crystal droplets in the detection study of target cells
초록 Liquid crystals (LCs) are excellent sensing materials that transduce interfacial biomolecular interactions and biological events into visible optical signals. If they would be made in the form of droplets, will be more useful in the fabrication of biosensors as they have relatively larger surface areas and orientation sensitivity. In this study, mast cells and KB cells were co-cultured on the patterned surface prepared by using a photosensitizer. Mast cells were sensitized by IgE antibody and then reacted with human serum albumin (HSA) anchored on LC microdroplets, resulting the configurational change of LC microdroplets. Poly(styrene-b-acrylic acid) block copolymers (PS-b-PA) were used in the fabrication of a LC (5CB) microdroplet based sensing system. The antigen–antibody interactions between HSA-anchored LC microdroplets and IgE antibody bound to the Fc receptors on mast cells were found to be capable of causing configurational changes in the LC microdroplets.
