Heat dissipating composites are fabricated using liquid crystal (LC) network with expanded graphite (EG) and boron nitride (BN). While the thermal conductivity of BN is higher than EG, LC-EG composite exhibits higher thermal conductivity than LC-BN composite at same amount of fillers. Spectroscopic analysis reveals that the LC matrix shows poor interfacial affinity with BN. Based on the diffraction analysis, the LC core presents strong π−π interaction with the EG. As a result, it was identified that the good interfacial interactions between the polymer matrix and filler are critical for improving heat dissipating properties composite system.
