Study on the Exfoliation and Surface Modification of Muscovite Mica for UV Steel Coating |

Lamella-type inorganic fillers have been used for the enhancement of barrier properties in the steel coating formulations. Mica which is a clay mineral of special interest because of its well-defined crystal structure, molecularly smooth surface, and outstanding corona resistance. In this work, exfoliation of mica was performed by using hydrothermal and molten lithium nitrate methods and followed by the surface modification with several cationic surfactants and vinyl silane. Crystalline morphology and physico-chemical properties of the delaminated mica fabricated from the two methods will be discussed (POSCO 20086036). |
