Triazine-coordinated sulfurized polymeric cathodes for lean electrolyte Li-S battery |

High energy-density batteries are at the forefront of development due to the high market demands. Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are promising due to a high theoretical capacity and energy density. However, sulfur conductivity fulfilled by the conductive carbon along with the polysulfide shuttle downplays the performances. Thus, improvements in terms of balanced sulfur utilization and polysulfide suppression with low electrolyte amount are required. Here, we attempt to improve the sulfur kinetics under lean electrolyte through an ample balance of sulfur utility and polysulfide via. triazine coordinated sulfurized polymeric cathodes. The cathode is redox active even at an E/S ratio 4 and 6 µL mg-1 delivering specific capacities of 413 and 583 mAh g-1 at 1 C. The well-coordinated triazine enables good electrolyte wettability and polysulfide anchoring at the atomic level paving for boosted electrochemical performance. |
