Polymeric spheres were prepared from poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)-b-styrene [P(SMA)-b-St] copolymers by electrostatic force. P(SMA)-b-St copolymers were synthesized by living free radical polymerization. Molecular weight of P(SMA)-b-St copolymers were controlled to c.a. 8,000, 12,000, and 15,000 g/mol, respectively to investigate the effect on shaping the polymeric spheres. The chemical structure of P(SMA)-b-St copolymers was confirmed by 1H-NMR and FT-IR. As increasing the Maleic Anhydride (MA) molar ratio, the C=O characteristic peak of FT-IR was qualitatively increased, and also the reaction time was dramatically reduced. To build up a good shape of polymeric spheres, a relationship between polymer concentration, molecular weight, and electric voltage was considered. |
