We report a simple and efficient method to fabricate OLED with enhanced light outcoupling efficiency by phase separation of two polymer blends. Polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate dissolved in tetrahydrofuran were mixed and spin-coated over a glass substrate. By control the composition of two polymers and the thickness of coated polymer blend, nano-pores and nano-pillar arrays were formed through the phenomenon of lateral phase separation of polymer blend. OLEDs employing the nano-pillar array as a light extracting layer showed over 20% enhancement of the light extraction efficiency in the forward direction with Lambertian emission pattern, no dependence of spectrum with viewing angles, and only a little increment of haze. Due to these advantages, this newly developed method can be adapted to large area and flexible substrates for lighting and display application. |
