The preparation of functional oxides at lower temperature by novel synthetic routes are an expanding area of research. The Water was used in many of these synthetic routes. However it involves the dissolution of the precursor, precluding their use with many functional oxides, for example metal vanadate. Herein we propose cost–effective solvent system to generate phase –pure cobalt vanadate using choline chloride-malonic acid deep eutectic solvent. This solvent is compatible with metal precursors and allows rapid synthesis of nanoscale cobalt vanadate at 600oC. The prepared cobalt vanadate served as a highly active and stable oxygen evolution electro-catalyst that can potentially replace expensive noble metal-based catalysts for electrochemical water splitting.
