The polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization, and their aspect ratios were controlled by the weight ratio of aniline/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone). The in vitro responses to PANI nanoparticles with different aspect ratios (2.1-5.35) were invesstigated in human fibroblast cells by cell viability, cytotoxicity, ROS production and apoptosis/necrosis. A aspect ratio-, dose- and time-dependent cytotoxic response was observed and especially toxicity of PANI nanoparticles increased with decreasing aspect ratio. These findings may provide new understanding of toxicity of PANI nanoparticles for their bioapplication. |
