The performance of thermoelectric power generation is characterized by figure of merit(ZT). Higher electrical conductivity and lower thermal conductivity produce higher figure of merit. Porous structures cause phonon scattering which decreases thermal conductivity. There are many methods to fabricate porous structures such as breath figure, sol-gel process. In this study, we fabricated porous structures for thermoelectric devices via nanophase separation of silica particles and polyacrylonitrile(PAN) matrix based on sol-gel process. Formation of silica particles were controlled by varying a mixing ratio of tetraorthosilicate(TEOS) as a precursor of silica particles and PAN. Higher electrical conductivity was obtained by carbonization of PAN and adding carbon nanotubes(CNTs) in a polymer matrix. As a result, this porous structure is expected for the morphology of efficient thermoelectric materials. |
