A very sensitive detection method is needed to prevent the spread of viruses that can lead to epidemics. Until now, virus detection methods required pretreatment and a complicated process with low sensitivity. In this study, we proposed a virus detection method with very high sensitivity based on the formation of an immune complex between multiple quantum dot (QD)-embedded silica nanoparticles (QD2) and magnetic beads. This method is a detection method thousands of times more sensitive than the conventional hemagglutination method and can have a detection range comparable to the polymerase chain reaction method. QD2 containing multiple QDs showed 500-fold stronger photoluminescence than individual single QDs. Based on the very strong fluorescence characteristic of QD2, the target molecule can be detected with high sensitivity without an amplification step, so it can be applied to various biological fields. |
