Impact of Ce-doping on the structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Nd1.4-xCexSr1.6Mn2O7 |

The Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites have attracted much attention in the field of materials science due to their various interesting properties such as large magnetoresistance and magnetocaloric effect. These materials have the potential for applications as active agents in magnetic refrigeration technology. In the present work, the structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the Nd1.4-xCexSr1.6Mn2O7 (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.20) samples prepared by the conventional solid state reaction method are reported. The crystal structure and grain morphology of the sintered pellets were investigated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD analysis clearly revealed the formation of the tetragonal structure with I4/mmm space group in all the synthesized samples. The Arrott plots obtained from the isothermal magnetization curves showed the second order nature of the magnetic phase transition at the Curie temperature (TC) in all the samples. The high magnetic entropy change and RCP values obtained for the samples investigated here suggest that these materials can be used as potential candidate materials for near room temperature magnetic refrigeration. |
