Investigation of eddy current on soft magnetic composite using atomic force microscopy |

Soft magnetic composite (SMC) has a high magnetic flux density and relatively low core loss, hence, it is widely used in electromagnetic applications such as motor, generator of vehicle, power inductor. However, eddy current can be susceptible to generation in SMC and it can affect power loss of several electromagnetic applications. Numerous researches for understanding and improving its electromagnetic properties have been performed extensively such as skin effect and core loss. Since most of them have focused on observation of global properties there is still a lack of information on local properties. In this presentation, we investigated the effect of eddy currents on two types of cores with different eddy currents using atomic force microscopy (AFM). In particular, we observed local electromagnetic properties on magnetic particles in the SMC in order to observe the eddy current property. Our studies revealed that as the voltage increases, the eddy current increases strongly at the boundary between magnetic particles. We suggest that the AFM can be effectively utilized to investigate electromagnetic properties on SMC. |
