Engineered surface modification to improve the strength of carbon fibers etched by electrochemical process |

In this study, surface defects and surface layer etching of carbon fibers (CFs) were tried by electrochemical etching method. CFs was etched by electrochemical etching method using ammonium bicarbonate (ABC) as electrolyte, and the change of tensile strength was evaluated after the treatment. The dramatically enhancement of mechanical properties of ABC-etching carbon fiber, and the mechanical strength changes of CFs and mechanical interfacial properties between epoxy drops according to surface etching were investigated. The tensile strength after etching increased significantly in a certain range. This is because the electrochemical etching method mainly etches the surface defects at the beginning, and the oxidation of the amorphous structure is mainly performed at the end. |
