Successful applications of carbon nanotubes in the field of polymer composites require well-dispersed nanotubes with good adhesion with host matrix, which, unfortunately is not easily obtained. Processing is rendered difficult by poor solubility of CNTs in common organic solvents. Moreover, inherently weak nanotube-polymer interactions result in poor interfacial adhesion, which can lead to the aggregation of nanotubes within the matrix and yield very poor effect in physical properties. To enhance the dispersibility, mechano-chemical treatment has been suggested in various ways. Especially, electrical conductivity of CNT/polymer composites processed by mechanofusion is 10 times or higher than that of conventionally mixed composites. In this study, we report a novel approach to prepare PPS/MWNTs composites through simple solid-phase mechano-chemical process at room temperature and the dispersibility, electrical and thermal conductivity of the composites are characterized. |
