Thermal and Mechnical Properties of Plasticized Poly(lactic acid) |

The objective of this study is to increase melt viscosity and improve brittleness by modification of Poly(lactic acid)(PLA), bio-degradable polymer. The observation was performed to verify the thermal and mechanical properties by changing plasticizers. First of all, observation of mechanical and thermal properties for blend of crystalline PLA and amorphous PLA, with identifying proper plasticizer and concentration was performed, after plasticizing PLA by adding three different plasticizers of Dioctyl adipate(DOA), Diisononyl adipate(DINA), and citric acid. The flexibilities of PLA chains by additions of three different plasticizers could be observed through melt flow index, and the decreases of Tg’s through DSC, due to plasticization. The most effective plasticizer was dioctyl adipate and the least effective one was DINA, among three plasticizers. |
