Unlike linear PP, long chain branched polypropylene (LCB-PP) was known to have high value in polymer processing and upcycling technology. In this study, potential of azidoformate functional groups to induce C-H insertion reaction was investigated to design and modify the molecular chain architectures of polypropylene. Two different small molecules with azidoformate groups at both ends were prepared. The azidoformate group decomposed thermally, generating active intermediates that mediated non-catalytic C-H insertion reaction to interconnect molecular chains of PP. The reaction was performed at molten state, potentially affording LCB-PP. Rheological investigation on the resulting PP was also performed to elucidate the characteristics. |
