Novel carboneous nanoparticles were prepared by using mesoporous silica nanoparticles as a template. In order to prepare monodisperse mesoporous silica nanoparticles, monodisperse polymer beads were synthesized by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. Based on the polymer nanospheres, polymer core/mesoporous silica shell nanoparticles were successfully prepared using Pluronic F127 as a structure-directing agent and TEOS as a silica precursor. After calcination at 600oC, polystyrene and Pluronic F127 were completely removed to obtain hollow silica nanoparticles with a mesoporous shell. These as-prepared, hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles were then impregnated with sucrose as a carbon precursor. The silica-sucrose composite was carbonized by heating under nitrogen atmosphere to produce silica-carbon composite nanoparticles. Using sodium hydroxide solution, silica was removed from silica-carbon composite to obtain carboneous nanoparticles with a high surface area. |
