In drowning-out crystallization process, the solubility of solution is reduced as feeding anti-solvent.Then, the super-saturation of solution increase and the nucleation & growth come to generate. Our objective is maximizing crystal growth with suppressing the nucleation. Therefore, we conducted optimization of the process by controlling feeding rate of anti-solvent for potash alum in water(solvent)acetone(anti-solvent) solution system. First of all, it was preceded dynamic meta-stable limit prediction for potash alum through experiments and the model of crystallization process was constructed using population balance. The nucleation and growth kinetics parameters are estimated based on final time CSD(Crystal Size Distribution) analysis. So the optimal feeding strategy of anti-solvent in order to maximize crystal growth with suppressing the nucleation was obtained. |
