Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers were prepared by wet spinning and metal (Nickel)-plated chemically to enhance the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE). The surface properties of the Ni-PAN fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The EMI-SE of the Ni-PAN fibers was tested by a EMI shielding analyzer. The EMI-SE of as-receives PAN and 20-Ni-PAN fibers showed approximately 0.1 and 38 dB at 2.2 GHz, respectively. The EMI-SE of Ni-PAN fibers was enhanced compared to that of as-received PAN fibers. Our results indicate that the Ni-PAN fibers can lead to a EMI-SE improvement due to the EMI adsorption behavior of the nickel particles. |
