제목 | CFD modeling of the polymerization reactor with transient viscosity effects |
초록 | During the polymerization process, the viscosity of the reaction medium significantly changes as the polymer chain increases. Reaction viscosity is known to have effects on the rate of termination and fluid flow in the reactor, therefore influences on the products properties. Considering the changes of the viscosity in the reaction system would provide better accuracy in simulating the reaction rates and physical properties such as MWD (molecular weight distribution) of polymer. As viscosity of polymers is dependent on polymer fraction, molecular weights of chains and shear rate, a macro model of viscosity should include information of these parameters. This study focuses on the impacts of viscosity on the flow pattern and MWD in a LDPE polymerization system. Modifying a discrete model for the polymer mixture, a viscosity model which can be solved numerically during CFD calculation is developed. With the model, reaction kinetics and fluid flows are both calculated in the CFD simulation and MWD is obtained by PGF (Probability Generating Functions) method. |
