We fabricated metal oxide monolayer water vapor barrier film using sol-gel method. In comparision with dry process method, the sol-gel method allows simple solution process for coating, lower annealing temperature and larger area coating on the substrate. Zinc, Magnesium, Indium, Tin and Zirconium alkoxide (0.1 M) solutions in 2-methoxyethanol were used as the precursor solutions for metal oxides, where HCl was used as catalyst, the metal oxide layers provide better gas barrier capability. We found that WVTR of the fabricated film may be influenced by the kind of metal oxide, coating and curing conditions. WVTR of the PEN film coated with ZrOx was about 8.6 g/m2/day at 85 ℃ and 85% RH, which is lower the bare PEN film of about 17 g/m2/day. When SiZrOx was coated on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), WVTR was further improved to about 3.8 g/m2/day at 85 ℃ and 85% RH, which corresponds to the value in the range of 10-2 g/m2/day under ambient condition. |
