제목 Enhanced Property of H2O-Barrier Film by Using Non-Oxidized Graphene Flakes Produced via Solvothermal Method
초록 Graphene has been studied as a filler for composites to lower moisture permeation. Its high aspect ratio and unique molecular impenetrability are attractive; however, the importance of the graphene’s quality needs further study. Here we demonstrate the enhanced moisture barrier property of polyethylene (PE) composite by incorporating non-oxidized graphene flakes (NOGFs). An organic molecule, quinoline, was intercalated into graphite during solvothermal process, yielding a partial graphite intercalation compound. The compound was then exfoliated into highly crystalline NOGFs with extremely low contents of oxygen (3.17 %). The lateral sizes were 5 to 50 times larger compared to NOGFs from conventional methods. Moreover, the NOGFs were non-covalently functionalized by quinoline concurrently during the process of intercalation, ensuring homogeneous dispersion of the NOGFs in PE matrix. Initial test of moisture barrier on the NOGF-PE composite shows 56% of improvement from pure PE film.
