The gasket rubber undergoes as the compressive state for more than 80,000 hours when operates about 10 years in fuel cell. Thus, it is necessary to develop a rubber material that maintains high elasticity for a long period of time to retain sealing during the operation and is highly resistant to compression strain. Recently, EPDM has developed for alternative gasket material due to its good injection moldability and low production cost. But it is necessary to improve heat resistance and mechanical properties in order to use EPDM rubber material. Cross-linking density depended on the curing time is one of the factors to enhance the thermal and mechanical properties, and affected to tensile strength, elongation and heat resistance. In this study, we optimized the curing time to enhance the heat resistance of the EPDM for PEMFC. DMA was employed to measure thermal property and mechanical properties were characterized by hardnesses, tensile tests and compression set measurements. |
