Synthesis of Fluorinated Acrylate Macromer for Multimode Polymeric Waveguides |

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study is to obtain low loss optical monomers and macromers that can be applied to UV-imprint for optical waveguides. Monomers were synthesized that include fluorine to reduce the optical loss. Macromers were synthesized via anionic polymerization when UV-imprint with an appropriate viscosity so that you can build a layer of desired thickness. These monomers and macromers can be photopolymerization. Macromers have the proper viscosity when mixed monomers and macromers with spin-coating deposited a layer of about 10μm. (2500rpm, 15s) The refractive indexes of the polymers could be precisely controlled by the variation of monomers and macromers feed ratio, which was in the range of 1.3364~1.5111. The birefringence of the polymers is at least 1×10-4. The multimode waveguide exhibited low propagation loss in the range of 0.15~0.20dB/cm. |
