Stem cell therapies are emerging branch of medicine for chronic disease. Especially, transplanted cells in infarcted heart are washed away immediately, caused by high blood pressure. For this reason, cell retention is the most important for better treatment efficacy. The study developed adhesive coacervate cell delivery system, which is composed of mussel adhesive protein (MAP) and hyaluronic acid (HA), to efficiently retain cells in infarcted area after cell transplantation. We employed the charge chacteristics of MAP and HA to encapsulate stem cells without cross-linking agent. We encapsulated stem cells in coacervated MAP and they could be alive over a month. In addition, coacervated MAP-based stem cell therapy platform was characterized by several experiments including adhesiveness measurement, stemness maintenance of stem cells, gene and protein expression level of encapsulated stem cells, degradation rate, and so on. As a result, the platform was water-immiscible with strong under water adhesion. Thus, these adhesive cell delivery carrier might have a potential to deliver cells into infarcted area with controlled growth factor releasing. |
