Facile Synthesis of Pore-size-tunable and Chemically-functionalizable Nanoporous Organic Framework membrane from Covalent Network/Polymer Mixture |

Recently, a new type of hydrophilic nanoporous covalent framework membrane was prepared by phase separation in polyurea network/polymer blend mixture during organic sol-gel synthesis. Simultaneous phase separation and gelation produced bi-continuous nanostructures. Herein, we developed a synthetic strategy to obtain a nanoporous covalent framework membrane with tailorable pore size and tunable pore surface functionalities. Using a chemically non-reactive polymer as a pore generating agent, meso-/macroporous polyurea-based membrane could be generated after quick removal of the porogen. The initial relative amount of the polymer determined the porosity and solvent flux of the resulting membrane. Stable and long-term organic solvent permeation of the membrane, and its ultrafiltration performance showed their potential for membrane applications. Chemically functionalizable pore surface would enable facile tuning of the pore characteristics while maintaining the nanoporous structure. |
