Using toluene-in-water emulsions containing PS-b-P4VP micelles and Au salts, Au-decorated block copolymer microspheres were prepared by evaporation and shrinkage method. By adding CTAB solution into the microsphere’s suspension, Au precursors within the micelles on the microsphere surface could be extracted out by CTAB, leaving the empty space in the micelles. Then, such empty space was filled with P4VP by the surface reconstruction, followed by creation of the porous nanostructure on the microsphere surface. From TEM and SEM measurements, the size of pores on microspheres was found to be controlled by using different molecular weight of PS-b-P4VP. In addition, the pore depth could be modulated by tuning the amounts of Au precursors incorporated into the micelles. Furthermore, with choice of additives (i.e. thiol terminated molecules) having stronger affinity to Au precursors, we demonstrate the control in the inner structure of the microsphere. |
