Unique dispersion method of Carbon nanotubes and their commercial applications |

Promising and remarkable properties of carbon nanotube(CNT) are well-known and their exploitation in a wide range of applications forms a large part of the research effort now in progress. In order to enhance miscibility in polymer matrix and various solvents, the non-polar surface of CNT has to be modified by functionalization. In this work, a functionalization method of CNT by the partial oxidation in super and near-critical water(SCWO) has been developed. It has been demonstrated that this functionalizing technology is far more effective for commercialization than the previous methods as acid treatment, ultra sonication and ball mill, etc. It was confirmed that the functionalized CNTs could be perfectly dispersed and highly concentrated in solution. The well dispersed CNT solution was coated onto plastic sheets(PET, PS, PC, polyolefin, etc.), which was applied to ESD(electro-static dissipation) products. |
