Polymeric Scaffolds of Fibroblast-derived Extracellular Matrix and PLGA composites for Renal Tissue Regeneration |

Bio-mimetic scaffolds for repairing an injured tissue are emerging as a promising approach in the field of kidney tissue engineering. In this work, we developed extracellular matrix (ECM) incorporated PLGA (PLGA/ECM) 3D bio-mimetic porous scaffolds as a cell supporting material for kidney tissue regeneration. PLGA/ECM scaffolds were prepared and characterized through various analyses. Cell proliferation on the scaffolds increased with increases in ECM concentrations. The PLGA/ECM scaffold was shown to be an effective matrix for the reconstitution of glomerulus in partially nephrectomized mice, compared with only PLGA control. These results suggest that the ECM incorporated PLGA 3D porous scaffolds could be one of the promising materials for tissue regeneration including kidney. |
