Which Pore Structure of Nerve Guide Conduit Is Suitablefor Peripheral Nerve Regeneration ? |
초록 |
The sufficient functional recovery of damaged peripheral nerves has been considered as one of the clinical challenges. Artificial nerve guide conduits (NGCs) to bridge the gap between severed nerve stumps are widely accepted as an useful alternative that creates a favorable environment for nerve regeneration. In this study, we prepared asymmetrically porous NGCs with different pore morphologies (outer macro-pore/inner nano-pore vs. outer nano-pore/inner macro-pore) to investigate the pore structure effect on peripheral nerve regeneration within NGCs. For this, the NGCs with different pore morphologies were implanted into rats (sciatic nerve defect model). It was observed that the NGC with outer macro-pore/inner nano-pore exhibits more rapid nerve regeneration behavior than the NGC with the opposite pore structure, indicating that the pore structure of NGC is one of the critical factors for peripheral nerve regeneration (Grant sponsor: NRF-2011-0000244). |
