The fluorescent detection of metal ions using fluorophores is one of the most powerful methods to discriminate between metal cations, much effort has been devoted to the design and development of new types of fluorophores exhibiting high selectivity in addition to high sensitivity. Such chemosensors are finding increased use in fields as diverse as biology, medical analysis, and environmental monitoring. Crown ethers and their analogous compounds are specific hosts for alkali metal cations, and can be functionalised by the introduction of fluorescent substituents. Herein we report synthesis and characterization of new azopolymers with alkali metal binding site and their fluorescence properties. In addition, the possibility of application of the azopolymer to fluorescent detection sensor will be described. |
