Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is a plasticizer widely used in the manufacture of flexible poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). Even though DEHP has superior plasticizer efficiency, there are worldwide regulations to use DEHP because of its endocrine-disrupting toxicity. For that reasons, many alternative plasticizers have been studied to solve these problems. However, they still have basic problems which are migration of plasticizers from PVC and deterioration of the flexible PVC properties. In this study, since oligo(ε-caprolactone) is biocompatible and non-toxic material, it is used as a brush material of nanobrush structure plasticizer. Especially, it has high miscibility with PVC and excellent molecular mobility with a properly high molecular weight to prevent migration. Extensive characterization of the PVCs plasticized with nanobrush structure plasticizer or DEHP confirmed that the eco-friendly nanobrush structure plasticizer can be used as an alternative DEHP. |
