Metal-air batteries are emerging as a next generation battery in the new energy age. The performance of a metal air battery depends on ORR (oxygen reduction reaction) performance. Here, we report that Nitrogen (N) doped microporous carbon (C) materials have been prepared as a non-precious metal catalyst. This synthesis was achieved through mixture of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) triphenylphosphine, melamine, KOH, and Ce(NO3)3⋅6H2O. The resulting material was capable of charge transfer via the coordination bond of cerium (Ce) and EDTA. The CNMC had a positive effect on ORR by allowing triple phases (gas-liquid-solid) to coexist in a wide range. The electrocatalytic activity of CNMC for ORR in alkaline media, which was investigated using rotating disk electrode (RDE) technology, was better than that of a platinum (Pt/C) catalyst. The durability and safety of CNMC is very good for commercial use. |
