A novel dianhydride monomer, ((dimethoxyphosphine oxide)phenyl)pyromellitic dianhydride(POPPMDA), was synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction from (dimethoxyphosphine oxide)benzene boronic acid(POBB) and 1-bromo-2,3,5,6-tetramethylbenzene, followed by oxidation and cyclodehydration, while POBB was prepared from 4-bromophenylboronic acid and dimethyl chlorophosphate via Grignard reaction. The monomer and intermediate compounds were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, TGA, DSC, melting point apparatus, and utilized to prepare polyimide with bis-(3-aminophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide(mDAPPO) via a conventional two-step synthesis; preparation of poly(amic-acid), followed by solution imidization. The molecular weight of polyimide was controlled to 25,000 g/mol by off-stoichiometry. The polyimide was characterized by FT-IR, NMR, GPC, TGA and DSC, and solubility, intrinsic viscosity were also evaluated. Adhesion properties were measured via T-peel test with bare as well as Cr/silane coated Cu foil. |
