The plasticizer migration from the polymer matrix such as poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) leads to change the properties of the product and harmfulness to human body as a possible toxicity. There have been many studies on non-migrated plasticizers, but it has been difficult to find alternatives that have high plasticization efficiency with non-migration. Monomeric plasticizers migrate from polymer matrix although they have a good plasticization efficiency, while polymeric plasticizers have opposite properties. Under consideration of the advantages both of them, oligomeric plasticizers can be one of the solution. In this study, oligo(ε-caprolactone) (OCL), a non-toxic material and highly miscible with PVC, is controlled with three-arm structure for excellent molecular mobility with a properly high molecular weight to prevent migration from PVC. Various evaluation of the PVC plasticized by three-armed OCL confirm suppression of plasticizer migration with a high plasticization efficiency. |
