To improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of emerging thin-film photovoltaic cells (PVs) such as polymer, small molecule and quantum-dot PVs, design of efficient light trapping system is an essential approach. Here, we analyze the merits and demerits of the previously presented schemes and propose a novel system named compound parabolic trapper (CPT) which can reach the maximum number of the multiple bounces of the incident photons. CPT showed a consistent photocurrent enhancement regardless of the basic material composition. Moreover, the combination of CPT with the nanophotonics schemes made an additive light trapping effect. The PCE of nanostructured polymer PV was improved from 8.1 % to 8.9 % by applying CPT. |
