Transparent and Flexible Polymer Nanocomposite Reinforced by 3D Continuous Ceramic Nanofiller with Enhanced Heat Dissipation |

Polymer nanocomposites reinforced by nanofillers have strengthening effects, but the dispersion of such nanofillers into a polymer matrix frequently causes aggregation which restricts high loading (>5 vol%) of nanofillers into the matrix. Here, we propose a new type of polymer nanocomposites with three-dimensionally (3D) continuous ceramic nanofillers, allowing extremely high loading (>15 vol %) of nanofillers into the matrix without a concern of aggregation. The inserted 3D continuous Al2O3 in the epoxy matrix with optimized conditions (compression: 84nm, 19vol%, tension: 36nm, 9vol%) simultaneously enhances the compressive strength and the tensile strength as high as 142% and 53%, respectively, compared to pristine epoxy. The resultant nanocomposite shows the superb transparency over entire visible and near-IR regions (>91% at 800nm) and the enhanced heat dissipation overcoming an epoxy nanocomposite reinforced by Al2O3 nanoparticles with identical volume ratio. |
