Polymer-stabilized blue phases for electro-optical device applications |

The polymer-stabilized blue phase (PSBP) has the advantages over a conventional nematic phase such as: (i) no requirement for any surface alignment layer and alignment processing like rubbing, (ii) optically isotropic dark state for wide and symmetric viewing angle, and (iii) sub-millisecond electro-optical response time. In order to resolve the issues of PSBPs for a practical application, we should closely understand the nature of blue phases. In this paper, we present our recent works on the lattice structure, the tunable photonic band, the optimized preparation process and the improved electro-optical properties of BPs and PSBPs. |
