This study is focused on replace the transport medium in IPMCs for the improvement of their performance. IPMCs typically use H2O as a medium, however, H2O electrically decomposes at a voltage as low as 1.23v and is very volatile, So we can not use this water based IPMCs in the atmosphere for a long time. Furthermore, conventional cationic IPMCs have significant limitations because they are not operate in an organic medium. Thus in this study, D2O was used as a medium, which can sustain higher degradation voltage than H2O, along with an imidazolium salt as an ionic liquid. We intend to extend the service life of IPMC in air, displaying an acceptable tip force and response rate, etc. |
