At present, coal combustion becomes the main source of mercury emission to the atmosphere caused by human activities, so a suitable way of mercury measurement is essential to regulate mercury emission. Because of low prices, convenient sampling and analytical operation and being capable of mercury measurements in circumstances of very low concentration, there is a need in further research and improvement for sorbent trap system. In this study, several experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption efficiency of sorbent trap system when it is applied to measure the concentration of oxidized mercury that is one of the main forms of mercury emitted by coal combustion power plants. Model 3315 mercury calibration unit was applied to generate known concentration (10, 20, 40, 60 μg/m3) of vapor phase oxidized mercury, flow rate was adjusted to 2, 3Lpm and experimental temperature was set at 120, 200 and 250 0C. Sampled activated carbon was pre-treated by EPA Method 3052 and analyzed by CVAAS (cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry). |
