Mercury conversion characteristics were examined in this study, since all mercury analyzers only detect elemental form (Hg0). Thus, oxidized mercury (Hg2+) needs to be reduced to Hg0 in order for mercury detectors to measure the concentration. Thermal converter was used in this study because maintenance cost is much less compared to the catalytic converter, which the catalyst needs to be changed regularly. Thermal converter is heated to 750℃ and above. Once all forms of mercury are reduced to Hg0, the gas stream was introduced to the chiller in order to remove acid gases. Acid gases present in the gas stream may cause re-oxidization and affect the concentration measurements. |
