New hyperbranched polymers were synthesized by ring-opening multibranching polymerization of hydroxyalkyl oxirane-2-carboxylates. They were prepared via epoxidation in the presence of 1,8-Diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undec-7-ene (DBU) with anhydrous tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP). Hydroxyalkyl oxirane-2-carboxylates were cyclic AB2-type monomers, polymerized by anionic ring-opening multibranching polymerization. The structure, molecular weights, and the degree of branching of the polymers were measured by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and infrared spectra. Polymers showed controlled molecular weights which are calculated from NMR measurements. |
