Acetic acid gas is a kind of volatile organic compounds which are harmful to the human body, with a bad odor. In order to increase the adsorption efficiency of ACFs, we introduced the oxygen functional group on the surface of ACFs by oxygen plasma. Oxygen plasma treatment to ACFs was conducted with various oxygen flow rates (0, 20,40,60 sccm). As the flow rate of oxygen gas during the plasma treatment increased, functional groups introduced on the surface of ACFs also increased from 6.92% up to 36.25%. The specific surface area of plasma-treated ACFs (1,098 m2/g) was slightly reduced compared to the untreated sample (1,180 m2/g), which was in contrast to the significant increase of the surface oxygen content of ACFs through the oxygen plasma treatment. It was confirmed that the adsorption characteristics of ACFs were enhanced compared to untreated samples. Therefore, the results showed that the oxygen plasma treatment can be an effective way to remove acetic acid gas for ACFs. |
