The pH indicators of narrow pH window would be useful to rapidly detect a small pH changes in microenvironments. To develop new optical pHindicators based on fluorescence, we synthesized a (pyridinyliden)indende-1,3-dione derivative possessing a 4-hydroxystyryl group, of which pyridinyl and hydroxyl styryl groups serve as a proton accepter and a donor, respectively. The phenolic hydroxyl group is deprotonated in basic media and pyridinyl ring is protonated in acidic media,thatled to a variation in the absorption and emission properties. This compound displays an “off-on-off” window-shaped fluorescence response with pH changes. |
