Synthesis of new pH sensitive block copolymer |

Synthesis of new water-soluble block copolymer exhibiting pH-responsive phase transition behaviors was carried out. At first, PEO-based macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was synthesized by n-butyllithium-initiated ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the mixture of benzene and DMSO at 40℃ for 48 h, followed by chain-end functionalization. The resulting PEO-based macroinitiator was converted into RAFT (reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer) agent carrying a dithioester group. Using the RAFT agent and AIBN, RAFT radical polymerization of sulfadimethoxinyl methacrylamide (SDM) and N-phenylmaleimide (N-PMI) was successfully performed in toluene at 90℃ for 6h. After the synthesis, Deimidation of the resulting PEO -b- P(SDM -co- NPMI) was performed. The results for these experiments will be presented. |
