In this work, wood biomasses were used to determine the combustion characteristics for the fuel of cogeneration plant. Basic combustion characteristics of two types, i.e., wood chip and palm kernel shell, were examined using thermal gravimetric analyzer in nitrogen and air atmosphere. To optimize the combustion condition, combustion test of wood biomasses as the size and moisture content was performed using furnace at 900℃. From the TGA results, the combustion of the wood biomass was occurred in the range of 250 to 450℃ and wood biomass showed lower activation energy compared to coal. In addition, the combustion efficiency of wood biomass could be controlled by the shape, size, and moisture content of wood biomass as well as air flow content. |
