Ladder type π-conjugated polymers have attracted a great deal of interests in both synthetic and application aspects during the past decade. Ladder-type polymeric derivatives exhibits a unique packing behavior, the so-called β-phase formation, which leads to a high degree of organization and an extraordinarily low concentration of topological defects due to their planar structure. We report on the synthesis of a full-ladder type poly(phenylene-thienylene) as well as a semi-ladder type derivative which have similar structures with poly(9,9′-n-dioctylfluorene-alt-bithiophene) (F8T2) to study electronic properties with respect to the structural correlation of ladder type polymers. These polymers have been prepared by using parallel synthesis root through the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. Structural and opto-electronic characteristics of the polymers are investigated. Furthermore, we fabricated photovoltaic devices using these polymers and measured their device performances. |
