arylene-based membranes have merits over the perfluorinated polymer membranes in terms of low costs and low methanol permeability. Polymer-carbon based materials nanocomposites are also attracted much interest as PEMs for DMFCs, since carbon based nanomaterials in the polymer matrix might improve mechanical strength, fuel barrier properties, membrane durability and proton conductance. A new type of nanocomposites membrane, in which sulfanilic functionalized graphene oxides are dispersed in sulfonated poly (arylene sulfone) (sPAS) matrix, is prepared for DMFC applications. The objective of this work is to systematically investigate the effects of sGO on the properties of polymer nanocomposites membrane. The sulfanilic functional groups present on the surface of graphene oxide could assist to improve proton exchange, and reducing the methanol crossover because graphene oxide plane blocked empty space between polymer chains. |
