A Direct arylation, Stille and Suzuki coupling of Fluorinate-Quinoxaline(5,8-Dibromo-6,7-difluoro-2,3-dihexylquinoxaline) with five different electron-rich aromatic units gave new donor-acceptor type alternating copolymer. These polymers contained bis(trimethyltin)-4,8-bis(2-octyloxy)benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b']dithiophene, 4,4-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[1,2-b:5,4-b']dithiophene, 4,4-dioctyl-4H-silolo[3,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene, 2,7-dibromo-9,9-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-9H-fluorene, 2,7-dibromo-9-(heptadecan-9-yl)-9H-carbazole as an donor. All the polymers displayed strong absorption in the range of 400-700nm and had good thermal stability with decomposition temperatures (5% weight loss) of 305 to 410oC. With a highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of -5.24 to -5.80, these polymers showed a band gap of 1.72 to 2.16 eV. These results demonstrate that the DFDHQx can be used as an electron-accepting unit in D-A type conjugated polymers |
